Professional skills in sustainability for Valencian companies and the SIR Registry

May 24, 2023

On May 23, the free Masterclass was held 'Professional skills in sustainability for Valencian companies and the SIR Registry', in which Thomas Gonzalez Cruz, director of the Chair, has spoken with José Vicente Soler Gironés, Director General of Sustainable Economy of the Generalitat Valenciana, Paco Alvarez Molina, sustainability expert in the European Union, and Isabel Castillo, from the Valencia Chamber of Commerce Sustainability Office.

First of all, José Vicente explained that the Registry of Socially Responsible Valencian Entities It is an "accessible instrument so that all companies, regardless of their size, can carry out an internal, calm and in-depth analysis on the incorporation of sustainability strategies according to their business model" and has highlighted that "We are facing a market change that highlights the need to implement sustainability strategies to remain competitive."

For his part, Paco has announced that "the European Union has reached an agreement to create a European Register for Sustainable Companies" which will soon come into force and will require large companies, and therefore their supply chain, to meet certain sustainable objectives and to disclose their non-financial information.

This then highlights the need for companies to have qualified professionals to prepare sustainability reports, and according to José Vicente, "These professionals must have multidisciplinary training, knowledge of the environment and sustainable finance, among others, but fundamentally in social aspects, quality of work, responsible internationalization; in addition to knowing how to communicate and transmit internally and externally the changes and objectives in terms of sustainability and corporate social responsibility."

And it is precisely in this aspect that the Cátedra de Empresa y Humanismo plays a key role by promoting the acquisition of the skills and abilities that the market and companies demand in terms of sustainability, through the “Diploma of specialization in Corporate Social Responsibility - Leaders in Sustainability Program”, which trains its students to design, structure and implement the social responsibility and sustainability strategies that organizations need today.
