Digital Transformation Barometer for companies in the Valencian Community

The second edition of the Barometer of Digital Transformation in Companies in the Valencian Community and Murcia, organized by the Chair of Business and Humanism of the University of Valencia joinly with SEIDOR, has been a resounding success. This year's event, which took place on October 19th, exceeded all expectations, marking a significant milestone in promoting digital transformation and business innovation in the Valencian Community.

The event was attended by prominent personalities such as Mr. Francisco Muñoz Murgi, Dean of the Faculty of Economics of the University of Valencia, Mr. Joaquín Aldás-Manzano, Vice-rector of Planning, Qualitat and Information Technologies and Mr. José Vicente Todolí Masquefa, General Director of Economy of the Generalitat Valenciana, among other experts and businessmen. 

The day was filled with in-depth and insightful discussions on digital transformation in companies in the Valencian Community, covering topics such as technology adoption strategies, economic impact, legal and regulatory challenges, and the role of innovation in business competitiveness.

Thomas Gonzalez Cruz, Director of the CEIH, expressed his gratitude for the success of the event and the collaboration of all those involved. "The Chair has been working since 2017 to become a space for interaction between the public administration, businesses, and universities. For his part, the Dean of the Faculty of Economics of the University of Valencia, Don Francisco Muñoz Murg He said: "I am at this event today representing the academy. The Faculty of Economics is the largest center in the Valencian Community and the European center with the greatest student mobility and We are aware of the importance of providing companies with qualified talent to spread the values that society itself is asking of us, such as sustainability.

Meantime, Don Joaquín Aldás-Manzano During his speech he highlighted that an event of the magnitude of This Barometer is essential for "establishing a connection between academia and businesses to generate the knowledge necessary to carry out a process as critical and important for the Community as the digital transformation of companies." 

Finally, José Vicente Todolí Masquefa, Director General of Economy, He thanked the organizers and emphasized the importance of this type of event for the Community and its business ecosystem.There is no doubt that digitalization is shaping the stage for transformation that affects different stakeholders. We aim to ensure that the majority of society can access the benefits of digital transformation and that the existing gap diminishes. And to achieve this, appropriate strategies are required, both by public and private entities, to achieve a more equitable digital transformation. Concerted action between the Generalitat (Generalitat), educational centers, and companies is necessary," he stated. 

The event left an optimistic outlook for the future of digital transformation in the region, highlighting the need to continue collaborating to promote digitalization and business innovation as drivers of development and prosperity.

Main conclusions of the II Barometer of Digital Transformation in Companies in the Valencian Community

  • For 59% of Valencian companies, technology has become an essential factor to boost their businesses.This reality is especially relevant among larger companies, in which the technology reaches a strategic value equivalent to that of the economy and the competence from other companies.
  • Companies remain focused on process optimization (32%) and the innovation within the company (27%), considering both as factors that will determine the competitiveness of companies and that are a prior and fundamental basis for the effectiveness of digital transformation.  
  • The Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) or sustainability represent only a 7% of the factors that companies consider to condition their competitiveness and, therefore, are not yet considered critical factors of competitiveness, remaining very far from other factors, such as process optimization or innovation.
  • Cybersecurity, a priority.  Among the technological projects carried out by Valencian companies over the last year, the study shows a great deal of homogeneity in the priorities given to technologies considered transversal. Thus, 52% of companies have invested in projects cybersecurity; a 44% in collaboration; a 45% in Cloud infrastructure (a 45%) and a 37% in CRM. 
  • Strategic value of digital.  Companies' digitalization gaps are narrowing, although significant gaps remain in certain sectors, such as the agri-food and logistics transport sectors. Specifically, the companies surveyed assign digitalization a strategic value of 8.6 out of 10, but, at the same time, these same companies consider that the  effective level reached is 7.2.
  • Digitalization It has become a critical factor in all areas of the company, from sales to production, including HR and marketing. This demonstrates that digitalization is not limited to a particular department or area, and therefore emphasizes the importance of digitalization. the importance of driving a digital transformation at the entire organizational level.
