On May 21, the conference "Sustainability: Current European Issues" was held at Caixa Popular's central services headquarters. It was led by Paco Álvarez, President of the Spanish Federation of the Economy for the Common Good and an international expert on sustainability issues.
This meeting took place as part of the training seminar program for companies organized by the Cátedra de Empresa y Humanismo of the University of Valencia (CEiH) in conjunction with Caixa Popular.
In his presentation, the expert summarized the sequence and current status of European sustainability directives, from the Non-Financial Reporting Directive (NFRD) to the implications of the new CSRD regulations in force, the challenges of the recently approved Corporate Due Diligence Directive, and new initiatives being developed in Europe, such as the European Single Access Point (ESAP).
Álvarez also explained that one of the most recent developments is the draft directive for unlisted SMEs, which aims to require these types of companies to report their sustainability performance in accordance with their specific needs.
On the other hand, we took advantage of the event to prepare SMEs for the upcoming obligation to prepare their sustainability reports. For this reason, Deyanira Sánchez, researcher and Project Manager of the Chair, presented the Report For Good tool, which she also co-created.
The benefits that the tool provides to attendees, mostly regional SMEs, are:
- Collect, organize, measure, analyze, and communicate the most common sustainability indicators.
- Obtain a sustainability report that the user company can adapt to its needs.
- Access a learning area with content to stay up-to-date and accelerate sustainability management in your company.
During the platform demonstration, the opportunity was taken to explain how the Valencian Government's Registry of Socially Responsible Valencian Entities works.
